The project represents a collaboration between public administrations, state road and motorway managers and traffic service providers, and is a logical continuation of the earlier phases of the Crocodile project.
This project involves six European Union Member States from Central and Eastern Europe (Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Croatia), with the aim of ensuring coordinated traffic management and control, resulting in high-quality services for passengers on one of the most important road corridors in Europe.

X4ITS Project
Upon the successful implementation and experience gained from the previous EU projects, Crocodile 2 Croatia and Crocodile 3 Croatia, the Republic of Croatia became a participant in the new EU project X4ITS to which Bina-Istra takes part, too.
The X4ITS project connects public bodies, cities, public transport operators, railway industry, road infrastructure managers and traffic information service providers from Eastern and Central Europe (AT, CZ, CRO, HU, RO, SLO). As a continuation of the previous Crocodile projects, X4ITS will continue to work on improving cross-border traffic management through the implementation of harmonized and synchronized ITS systems on the road network with a high level of security, as well as the implementation of the use of C-ITS, based on the C-Roads specifications in urban areas associated with road network with a high level of security.
The implementation of the project will focus on a better possibility of data collection, processing and access, including the installation of new equipment, upgrading of processes and connection to the National Access Points, especially when it comes to connections to the secondary road network, as well as to (multimodal and/or urban) nodes.
In Eastern and Central Europe, where there are several smaller countries (most of which have different languages) with great cross-border traffic, the exchange of information is extremely important. Therefore, participants in the X4ITS project are committed to making data available along the entire corridor, which should ultimately lead to high-quality information services for end users.
The X4ITS project will highlight the impact on the environment and safety and its contribution to key priorities within the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, decarbonisation and digitization of the EU transport sector, as well as in terms of achieving an increase in traffic safety and a reduction in traffic accidents.
