As part of the program activities of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and UNICEF within the Child Protection component, the key priorities of UNICEF's activities are focused on the prevention of violence, abuse, exploitation and social exclusion of children from the most vulnerable groups.
The UNICEF initiative "For a stronger family" covers the area of parenting support and strengthening of parental competences, ensuring appropriate and effective support and assistance to families with identified risks and substitute care for children in situations of inadequate or absent parental care through the improvement of foster care for children, as the most appropriate form alternative care.
Statistical data indicate the need to create a support network for children who grow up in foster care and foster parents through structured support groups and the further continuation of an extensive campaign in targeted counties, where there is a lack of foster families, in order to sensitize and motivate a greater number of citizens to become foster parents and consequently every child grew up in a family.
The partnership between Bina Istra and UNICEF has been going on for years, and this time the cooperation was initiated on a project to support foster care programs for children without adequate family care in the counties of Istria and Primorje-Gorski Kotar, as well as support for children placed with foster parents.
